The Family
Visitation Center
Keeping families connected. Centering child well-being.
Building safety, resilience, and hope — one visit at a time.
The Family Visitation Center at Center for Child Counseling provides a trauma-responsive, safe, and nurturing environment for children and families to maintain and strengthen their relationships — guided by compassionate support, coaching, and the belief that every family deserves a chance to heal together.
Every visit is carefully structured to prioritize each child's physical, emotional, and developmental safety.
Through coaching and support, we help parents build skills, deepen connection, and grow in confidence.
Grounded in the HOPE framework, every interaction is an opportunity to create positive experiences that build resilience.
A Model Built on Healing,
Not Just Supervision
Most visitation programs focus on monitoring. Ours focuses on transformation. Grounded in Center for Child Counseling's public health approach, the Family Visitation Center integrates prevention, early intervention, and trauma treatment into every family's experience — because visitation should be a pathway to healing, not just a requirement to fulfill.
"If families are provided with safe, structured visitation that is trauma-informed and HOPE-centered, and supported by trained specialists offering coaching and reflection, then parents will gain the skills and confidence needed to strengthen their relationship with their children."
Our approach is rooted in A Way of Being with Children — the understanding that how adults show up matters more than any technique. Every Family Support Specialist is trained not just in safety protocols, but in attunement, empathy, co-regulation, and cultural humility.
We partner with parents — not as monitors, but as coaches and allies. Through strengths-based reflection and guided practice, parents build insight, confidence, and the skills to create safe, nurturing connections with their children. Every visit is an opportunity to build trust, model healthy relationships, and support long-term family well-being.
Visit Coaching
Based on the Visit Coaching framework by Dr. Marty Beyer, our specialists don't just observe — they actively support families before, during, and after every visit.
Educational workshops, parenting programs, and resource navigation for families — building protective factors before crisis occurs. Access to on-demand workshops and resources at BeKidSafe.org.
Visitation specialists observe families during visits, identify concerns early, and provide warm handoff referrals for counseling, parent education, and community resources — ensuring families receive timely support.
On-site therapists provide trauma-informed individual and family therapy, play therapy, support groups, mental health consultation, and parenting education — facilitating healing and safety, while promoting secure attachment.
Visit coaching strengthens safe, stable, nurturing bonds between children and caregivers
Home-like visitation rooms and outdoor spaces create physically and emotionally safe settings
Parents are active participants — reflecting on progress and setting goals before and after visits
Play-based interaction and trauma-informed materials support children's social-emotional development
Services for Families
The Family Visitation Center provides a range of services tailored to each family's unique needs and circumstances — all grounded in safety, compassion, and the goal of strengthening the parent-child bond.
Structured, safe visits for families involved in or at risk of involvement in the child welfare system. Our trained Family Support Specialists provide continuous or general monitoring while creating a calm, welcoming environment where children feel secure and parents feel supported. Every visit includes coaching, guided interaction, and compassionate feedback.
Our core service — available at all locationsEmbedded in every visit — pre-visit planning, in-the-moment support, and post-visit reflection help parents build skills, attachment, and confidence through strengths-based guidance.
Supervised or monitored sibling visits without parent presence, promoting sibling bonds during separation and helping children maintain their most important peer relationships.
Intermittent check-ins by trained staff without continuous presence — for families progressing along the visitation continuum toward greater independence and reunification.
A neutral, safe site for custody exchanges between caregivers and parents, minimizing potential conflict and ensuring smooth, low-stress transitions for children.
Licensed therapists and interns provide individual and family therapy, play therapy, and trauma-informed parenting support — all available on-site at the Family Visitation Center.
Referrals and warm handoffs to counseling, parenting programs, health care, and community resources — coordinating whole-family support across systems with DCF, ChildNet, courts, and partners.
