More than twenty years ago, I walked into this work believing something simple: that no child should have to face the hardest moments of their life alone.

I still believe it. And after more than two decades in children's mental health, I believe it more fiercely than ever.

Every day at Center for Child Counseling, I see what happens when a child who has known fear, loss, or trauma is met instead with safety, patience, and steady care. I see a four-year-old learn that big feelings don't have to be scary. I see a parent, exhausted and unsure, discover they have everything they need to help their child heal. I see a teenager who had given up on adults slowly decide to trust one again.

These moments don't happen by accident. They happen because we have built something intentional — a way of being with children that is grounded in science, powered by relationships, and rooted in hope.

We don't wait for children to break before we help them. We build the conditions for them to thrive.

Our work spans the whole community — from prevention that reaches children before harm ever occurs, to early support in schools and pediatric offices, to healing therapy for those who have experienced the unthinkable. We equip parents, teachers, pediatricians, and caregivers with the tools to be the safe, nurturing presence every child needs. Because protecting childhood isn't the job of one organization. It's the work of a whole community, and we are honored to lead it.
